Our History

In October of 2014, Old Paths Baptist Church was planted in Nevada, Ohio.

The founding pastor, Dan Dornbirer, was raised in Crawford County and graduated from Wynford High School in 1985. He spent 30 years in public education before retiring in July 2021. In 2009, he answered the call to ministry and enrolled at Gulf Coast Bible Institute in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, graduating in 2012.


In October 2014, he began the work of planting Old Paths Baptist Church. In May 2016, the church relocated to its current home at 4402 State Route 19, three miles north of Bucyrus.


In August 2021, Pastor Dornbirer was diagnosed with cancer. By God’s grace, he continued to preach, teach, and actively share the Gospel throughout much of his battle. On April 20, 2023, the Lord called him home.

In September 2023, Missionary Matthew Siekbert became the Pastor of Old Paths Baptist Church.

Pastor Siekbert and his wife, Jackie, have been married for 27 years and are blessed with four children. Before becoming the pastor, the Siekberts served faithfully as church-planting missionaries in Ghana, West Africa, for 19 years.


Pastor Siekbert grew up attending First Baptist Church in Milford, Ohio. He was called to preach at the age of 16 and later enrolled in the School of the Scriptures, a Bible training ministry of First Baptist Church. In 1994, he became the Assistant Pastor of Chippewa Lake Baptist Church in Medina, Ohio. In April 1999, the Siekberts surrendered to serve as missionaries in Ghana, West Africa.


During a furlough in 2010, Pastor Siekbert met Pastor Dan Dornbirer. Their friendship deepened over time. When Pastor Dornbirer was diagnosed with cancer he asked Pastor Siekbert to lead all church services beginning December 4, 2022. In 2025 the Siekberts returned to local missions in America.

In the spring of 2025, Old Paths Baptist called Chris Caley to pastor the church.

Pastor Caley and his wife share a deep love for the Bucyrus community and the surrounding region. They eagerly anticipate the great things God has in store for the people of Old Paths Baptist Church.
